I make it a point to periodically check Webmaster Tools for crawl errors. I've managed to fix all but one type 404 (Not found) specifically on "about.html", a file I deleted over a year ago and replaced with "about/".

It occurs to me that I could re-recreate an about.html with a meta tag or 301 redirect? Is this a good idea, bad idea, or simply a waste of time? Or might you have other suggestions?

Thanks! thinking.gif

One 404 isn't going to do you any harm, but check to see why Google keeps looking for that file. It may be that they're just being slow, but it could also be because someone out there is linking to it, in which case you definitely want to set up the redirect.

Hmm... wordpress seems to be having problems with about.html vs. about/. It appears to get into an infinite loop with about.html->about/ -> about/ ->about/ ...

Any other ideas? Or should I just punt?

Thanks!

How did you code the redirect?
