Hi Folks:
I requested that our client use the canonical tag for their content when they have multiple URLs for the same content.
In this example below; the 1st URL is the preferred URL. According to Google the canonical should be placed on the 2nd URL specifying the 1st URL as preferred.
The client also added the canonical to the 1st URL (saying it was the preferred version as well as the 2nd URL.) Is this going to have a negative impact?
www.example.com/product.php?item=swedish-fish&category=gummy-candy
www.example.com/product.php?item=swedish-fish&trackingid=1234&sessionid=5678
