I recently started using the Google spam report form, but I'm not sure which boxes to check. I'm sure Google appreciates reporting and the more accurate the better. Though Jill's excellent newsletter has mentioned different types of spam quite often, when it actually comes to determining what type of spam is used I need more experience.

Examples are a good way to learn, and I guess there is nothing wrong with a couple of reallife examples as these guys deserve it.

Google uses these categories:

Hidden text or links
Misleading or repeated words
Page does not match Google's description
Cloaked page
Deceptive redirects
Doorway pages
Duplicate site or pages

Take this url for instance [URL removed. We would prefer not to post sites that are accused of spamming here. Please talk in generalities if you're wondering if a technique is spammy.- Jill]

The resulting site offers no information on my search "ferienhäuser dänemark privat" and very briefly a strange page shows up with some random text containing the KWs a number of times. 3 fast back clicks takes you back (to Google).

Would that be a deceptive redirect, cloaking or doorway and how should one know? Good examples and explanation of Googles categories are greatly appreciated.

I would also like to know how Google acts on these reports - did any of you report a spammy page and what happened?

I reported a site about 6 months ago (the entire front page was COVERED in hidden text--it was truly unbelievable). Google sent me an email stating they had recieved my form and that was it. The site in question is still up (although not ranking too well).

I'm not sure if reporting it did any good or not.
