I run a site in Wordpress and I use the Sitemap Generator for Wordpress Plug in. Even though my sitemap has been resubmitted, I'm still getting a 404 error in Webmaster Tools for a page I deleted months ago, and a domainname.com/home-a page that to the best of my knowledge has NEVER existed.

According to GWT The only page linking to both these pages is the xml sitemap. Should I try uninstalling & reinstalling the plug-in

The support forum for the plugin is full of unanswered posts of people asking how to remove crawl errors....

Any suggestions / work-arounds are highly appreciated!

Why not just 301 redirect the url they say is 404'd to something else?

I'm guessing the plugin has to use the page data in your database. If the pages have been moved to Trash but not completely deleted the plugin may not be checking to determine what the status of the articles are. Or it could be that the database needs to be rebuilt after pages are deleted.

I also faced same situation,I just implement what "jill" said-

1>First Create an error page in html or any language you want
2>Redirect all those pages to that error page
3>Lastly I disallow that error page from robots.txt.

If any one have better solution Please comment.
