Hi all
I'm looking to use an SEO agency to help with a few of my search rankings. However i do have some worries that would appreciate peoples view on.
I've looked at a few SEO agencies (both have high ranking customers for valuable terms) that have been recommended or i've spoken too. From there i've looked at a few of their customers back links via Yahoo Site explorer. I was expecting too see links on good quality sites but instead all i've seen are links on a vast amount of Directories and a lot on low end blogs i.e. PR 0 - 2.
Am i missing something here or is this to be expected?
Any help would be appreciated as this is baffling me.

You are wasting your time in counting links and hoping to find anything useful.
And SEO isn't about links.

Depends, are they just "optimisers" who believe that links are everything or are they actually going to optimise the site pages for conversions THEN promote and market the products or services you offer?

Rather than worrying about links, why don't you just look at the rankings that the agencies are achieving for their clients? After all, that's the end product.
You know who the clients are. You know (or can presumably figure out) what keywords the clients would be likely to target. If you search for those keywords, you can see how well the clients rank.
Of course, that doesn't really tell you anything about the skills of the agencies. But if Agency A's clients all rank well for their likely keywords, and Agency B's clients all rank badly, that's at least something you would want to take into account.

Improved CONVERSIONS should be the end product of optimising.
Rankings are NOT a measure of anything useful.
