Firstly, hello to you all! I'm looking for some advice..

We currently own a Volusion e-Commerce Store to display and sell products we stock. We have had this and a domain for about 3 years now, previously the old store used a different domain (12 years old, which we still own) but after a company re-brand we switched to a newer domain.

Our website has been crawled by Google weekly for these 3 years, and with constant SEO improvements we have a pagerank atleast 2 plus some of our pages are ranked highly in the Google SERPs.

Comparing some of our pages against competitors, we find that our SERP is much lower than theirs. Then we noticed they all have domain names ranging between 10 and 15 years old, which leads to my question..

Would it be beneficial to us to change our domain name back to the old url, which is over 12 years old and still holds a pagerank of 2 (from all the sites that havn't changed the outgoing link)? The new store has over 2000 pages, so moving seems like a giant task and we dont wan't to rush into anything

SGB PR and the "age" have nothing to do with how well (or not) a site does.

What does matter is what promotion has been done while a site is "getting old".


A better option for your scenario is to redirect the "old" domain to the new.

Exactly. You need to 301-redirect the old domain to the new one ASAP. This should have been done when you first switched domains. Hopefully it isn't too late.
