We are launching a daily pet calendar on our site with a new design and lots of online/offline marketing. To see a draft, go to www.petassure.com/calendar There's a lot of debate in our office as to the best naming.
www.example.com/pet-photo
www.example.com/animal-photo
www.example.com/animal-picture
www.example.com/animal-pictures
etc. etc. etc.
Some of these have limited competition, some have a lot of competition but all of them are weak, Google only shows the first 5 results for some because it automatically shows Google images.
Our site is a PR5. We have some traffic that we are confident will increase very significantly over the next few months (we've hired a PR firm and have lined up a lot of marketing initiatives).
Any suggestions as to what the page name should be and an explanation why?

I am somewhat new to SEO but what makes since to me is to ask someone detached from your site to search for pet animal pictures and see what keyword they punch in google, then make your naming convention match that.
People searching usually type in all lower case. Also whenever I want to see pictures I want to see more than one, so I would definately use the plural tense. "photos" or "pictures"

Personally, as a pet lover myself, I'd be more receptive to www.example.com/pet-photo-of-the-day, which is also more descriptive. And I'd seriously think about having pet photo contests to come up with that photo, in order to get people participating.

Is it better to use hyphens or underscores in URL names? Does it make a difference?
How much does a keyword in the page URL name help you in the search engines?
