Google came out with new look today and seems like they are more interested copying Overture with text based PPC.

Google has always been text based on their PPC, I think the reason they have gone with the new look on the Paid ads is to allow them to blend in better with the various sites they will appear on with adsense.

It did remind me of Altavista and all the web though when i first saw it lol

I'm not seeing the new look in my neck of the woods yet, but heard the rumors last week. Could you share some specifics?

Can't see anything different either.

What do you mean text-based PPC? Google has always had that. What's different now?

Here is the url

http://www.google.co...&oe=UTF-8&q=the

May be not all data center has been upgraded yet.

As for the PPC google used background color to differentiate the PPC on right side, in new look there is no back ground in PPC ads and it's more wider than previous ad display with frame dividing organic and ppc result.

Thanks! Rumor has it they're getting rid of the AdWords Premium slots above the SERPs. Are you seeing that?

Ohhhh....getting closer and closer to the prediction of their being only information sites on the left and commercial sites on the right.

Yep, yep, yep. That's what they're going towards. That new design makes it perfectly clear!

Thanks, OWG!

Personally, I think this design de-emphasizes AdWords. Now they look just like that right-hand column that everyone ignores on every web site. It'll be interesting to see the effect on CTR.

Jill (Or Anyone else who knows):

I do remember reading about this distinction about information sites on left and commercial sites on the right. But I am not sure how they would distinguish. I have a commercial site but I do plan to spend a lot time, effort and money on making it into the best information site in it's field (hoping to convert some of that traffic looking for free stuff into sales). This site too falls in this category where there is lots of free information but also a service being sold. Will google do it on domain extension (.com/.org) ..doesnt make sense to me.

Will love to read more on this...any threads/links etc ?

Rohgan, I personally believe that part of what G was doing after Florida and Gladys was seeing if they could somehow put only the informational sites on the left, which is why so many commercial sites were buried or non-existent.

Obviously, it was a miserable failure as we saw, so it appears they've abandoned the idea for now (if they even really were). I'm sure they're continuing to work on it behind the scenes though.

Whether they can ever actually get something like that to work is hard to say. And whether the public will buy into it is another story.

Again, this is just my opinion. To my knowledge, nobody at Google has ever said they were doing this.

I guess even if they manage it, it would probably be restricted to industries like casino's etc that dont have much "information" aspect and are probably good money sources for the search engines. For most areas I dont think it is possible even for a human to make that distinction since articles, tutorials, information costs money and one would find the best information on sites that do have atleast some commercial aspect.

Google uses some serious floating log scales in their algos, they could fine tune sites out, there is no doubt about that. Keep in mind that google does not present lists of sites, it delivers lists of pages, so a site could be delivered as both commercial & informative in the same SERP, with different pages being shown.
