How important is it to host in the UK? I've a .co.uk domain and my market is UK.
I was thinking of using Volusion but they insist on hosting in USA.
My current provider has gone bust so have to make changes.

I have had .co.uk sites hosted in both USA and UK, both perform equally well as far as I have measured.
I do however if given the choice, host my .co.uk sites in the UK just in case some SE somewhere either differentiates or changes their Algo.

Thanx very much, I've also had comments that US hosted sites are slower than those hosted in the UK when viewed in the UK?
Any comments?

It really makes no difference on the hardware and software side. There is most
likely some psychological issues with having a resource close to your base.

There can be some latency which is dependant on host and ISP connections, but realistically only people still using dial-up conncetions are going to be affected.
TEN YEARS AGO where your site was hosted could be a "speed" issue, and of course to the "experts" who think it is 1995, it still is.
