What is up with the recip link method that uses a setup like resources.sitename.com. All the links are held here. A site I followed gets tons and tons of links this way. Any thoughts? Is this a recip linking method or is it a better way to hide a recip link?
PS. Sorry f this is a duplicate to a post earlier, having internet issues and did not see that one make it to the board.

Not sure I understand the question. 
"resources.sitename.com" is simply a subdomain.
A subdomain can either be a stand-alone website, or set up as part of a larger site. They're configured differently on the server from a subdirectory, but functionally you can think of them as similar to a subdirectory and you won't be too far off. In other words, resources.sitename.com wouldn't necessarily be all that different, conceptually, from www.sitename.com/resources.
Which is a long way around of saying that a subdirectory isn't a reciprocal linking method. It's a way of organizing and displaying pages on a site, just as a "regular" domain name or a directory within a domain name.
Whether it's being used to "hide" reciprocal links would depend on how the site owner is promoting and linking to/from the pages that are in that subdomain.
