Main: If a main product page of an Ecommerce site is Binoculars and they have a page: www.site.com/filtersearch.asp?=Binoculars
Birding: And they have "filtered" pages for additional products like Birding Binoculars: www.site.com/filtersearch.asp?=Binoculars&value=Birding
Do I need to put a canonical tag on the "Birding" page:
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.site.com/...?=Binoculars"/>

It sounds like (from the limited info here) that it would be a good idea.
I'd also suggest going into your Google Webmaster Tools account and telling Google to ignore the "value" parameter (in the Parameter Handling tab).

Hi Jill,
I have been looking through web master tools...where can you do that?

I guess my question is "why" would I put a canonical on the "Birding" page? Conceivably someone could search for "Birding Binoculars" and that would be the best page for it. If I put a canonical on that "birding" page, then I am telling Google that the main page for that is the "Main" binoculars page.
Am I incorrect here?

Sounds like something I'd have to see in action to comment on, sorry.
