I have a site that is set up so that pages are all redirecting to the whatever.com version of the domain.

I have been asked to change it for branding purposes to redirect to the www.whatever version. The question came up regarding google analytics. Will GA see that as a different website and will I need to resubmit to GA or does big G all see it as the same creature?

This is what I have in place now:

CODE
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.whatever\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$  http://whatever.abc/$1 [R=301,L]

Should the following be sufficient?

CODE
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.whatever\.abc$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.whatever.abc/$1 [R=301,L]

Oh gosh how I wish I owned the real whatever!!!

Thx

I've never tracked Google Analytics across that kind of move but given how they report all URLs as relative rather than absolute, I would guess that your analytics won't be affected as long as the code doesn't change.

Went with:

CODE
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^whatever.abc$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.whatever.abc/$1 [R=301,L]

Well, considering the fact that the same JavaScript code is still in place I wouldn't be surprised if big G accepts the change gracefully, but I needed to ask. Thx.
