The pinned topic at the top of this board is from Dec 2006.

I wonder if anything has changed about duplicate content since then?

No, the advice on the duplicate content penalty hasn't changed. It's the same as it has been since Dec 2006 and, in fact, long before that.

There's more to duplicate content than the mythical duplicate content penalty, however, and probably the biggest change in the duplicate content arena in the interim has been the introduction of rel=canonical in 2009.
