Seo Implications Of Holding Pages

Hi, we are developing about 10 new sites but wondered which of the two scenarios would be preferable? The new sites are redesigns of old sites which were hosted on domains brandname.clientname.co.uk and are now in the format of brandname.co.uk

- Change the domain name to the new name but but serve up a holding page
- Change the domain name to the new name but serve up the old site content

any advice would be great cheers.
