You are so right, Ian. Before and After comparisons give potential clients a HUGE boost to see what you can do.
I get so many people who comment on the sample on my home page. I'm working to create a before and after section on my site for the exact reasons you stated.
Hey, I'm always up for new work. I'm sure others here are, too.

Karon,
Thank you for fixing the links in my post, very much appreciated!
I'm planning on showing some "before" and "after" makeovers on my site; I had been mulling over doing this for awhile...after all, sometimes the transformation is, well, quite dramatic.
After all, a site without good copy really is like a woman without makeup. The underlying structure might be good, the basic person wonderful, but there's nothing to highlight her best features. So a good "makeover" is like a glamour shot: it lets people go "wow! I didn't know you could look like THAT!" and shows off the best features.
I think that's one of the most satisfying experiences a copywriter (or a site optimizer) can have.
Okay, enough waxing philosophical here
Oh, and yes, I don't know a copywriter alive who turns away referrals or business, so those are always welcomed and appreciated.
