On of my customer wants to sign up with another SEO firm. This firm is trying to sell him on links, I saw the proposed sites to link the the customers site, these sites have ZERO relevance. Below is their explanation. After reading the previous post on back links, I find it difficult to accept their thought process. Who is right ?

Briefly, so you understand how this works, your links are being added to other sites to get you more exposure on the internet which ultimately makes the search engines, like Google, access your site more often. Each time they go to one of these sites that has your link on it, they spider through the pages and will find your link. That link will force them back to your website. The more we can get them coming back to your website, the more important they will think you are. This will help them to recognize your site and get the work you have done with your optimizer noticed.



It is not done to get you traffic from people visiting these websites. It is not there to tell the search engines where you are located or what it is that you do. All of that has to do with your keywords and phrases. It is done to make the search engines return to your site more; that is the plan. It is truly as simple as that.

What they said is completely untrue and has nothing to do why one would want to get links. It's not to get the search engine visiting your site. (Although it can be a way to get a new site discovered at first.)

Links are necessary because Google treats them as a vote for your site by the other site.
