One of my clients noticed today that the SEOBook tool report of backlinks in Yahoo Site Explorer just took a big dive. His site went from 64k to 16k, and I've seen similar drops in other sites too. Anybody know what's going on?

I'd tell him to stop looking. Unless of course he's trying to diagnose why he lost traffic, conversions and sales.

I stopped using the Yahoo Site Explorer since Yahoo used Bing as search index. I haven't monitored the Yahoo Bot activities, but I can expect to see huge drop of activity. You may use other tools to check back link activity like Open Site Explorer or MajesticSEO

Vanessa Fox contributed an article about this at SEL on Saturday.
