Actually Mal - you may well be right. It probably is within a particular age group, It means an infantryman in modern day military talk.

We have a beer down here, XXXX, that I think has conotations elsewhere (and XXX as well).
Aussies say rubber = Yanks say eraser (that always got the new US kids at school going. "You got a rubber I could borrow Francine? I'll give it back after I use it, promise" {the borrow bit always made em feel a bit sick, I think!!!!})

Aussies also got a lot of rhyming slang, like "No Wucken furries", which gets shortened to "No wuckers" (no f***ing worries)

Barry, which is short for "barry Crocker" which means to have a shocker.
The Harold, which is short for the "harold Holt", which means run away (we had a Prime Minister that drowned while pissed {drunk, sorry} off the Victorian coast at night, though some claim a Russian sub picked him up, he ran away cause Prime Minister was too stressful etc. its kinda our version of Elvis still being alive)
