Hey all
I'm currently contemplating purchasing some computer accessories. I have the following basic options as far as I'm aware:
1) Buy from a UK company in £
2) Buy from a US company in $ (due to excellent £/$)
3) Buy second-hand on a UK online auction
4) Buy second-hands on a US online auction
I know that if I purchase from the US I'll probably have to pay around 20% tax but I still think it may be worthwhile. The only issue I'll have is if something goes wrong with he product itself.
Anyone have any tips/hints/experiences to share?
Cheers
James

I just moved back to the states from the UK and frequently purchased from US websites and had products shipped over, mainly because I couldn't find them in the UK. I never had any problem other than Royal Mail not leaving packages with the porter and then having to make my way to the local office to collect... a big pain.
Not sure where you're coming up with a 20% tax!! Does not exist! If you consider shipping charges "tax", then OK.
You may find however, that some companies will not accept orders from overseas.

Thanks for the info.
When I refer to tax I actually mean the import tax/duty that UK customs charge on imported items.
Do you have any recommended retailers that I could look at?
Cheers

I live in Ireland, and only sometimes buy from the US. Most of my pc parts come from Hong Kong. The only problems that can arise if buying from HK is customs tax, sometimes customs open your parcel and fiddle around, and you have to pay for it :-(
But from US, I've never had a problem.
