I am going to get a link in a friend of mines site, it has a pr of 5
on his homepage. My link will be on his front page, i am looking for the great traffice he gets, but will this help my pr rank as well? or do you need a whole bunch of high pr sites to boost a pr rank? Last question once a sites pr is high does it still need to link to as much sites or does it like own some of that pr it has recived?

The link from his site will add to your overall PageRank, yes. A whole bunch is nice, but each one counts.
As for your last question, you can never have too many high-quality links that point to your site. That's one of the reasons why it's so critical to have a site that is SOOOOO great that it will constantly be linked to by other sites.
