Our company is based in the US, but sells to multiple countries. We're talking about registering the .co.uk, .de, .au etc. versions of our domain name. Anyone know if there's any particular effect on SEO to having things set up that way? I mean, I assume we'll have German content on the .de version of the site, but the US, UK and AU versions may be substantially the same... should I just 301 those to our main site, or keep them separate?
On a similar note, I see that when I search for our top phrase on Google.com we come up in a different position than we do on Google.co.uk... does Google prioritize non-US search results for non-US searchers?

Please see our International SEM Issues Forum where I'm moving this as we've addressed this issue a number of times.
