I have facebook fan page too (well, for the company, not my self, haha). I havent digged into this too much, but as a guideline i make quality updates which provoke to an action. Adding a question, or a strong opinion on something helps getting interaction, which in turn gets your update more attention. For me at least it doesnt matter if the customers click a link from facebook directly, or buy after one week.
Other things to do with facebook are sending small newsletters. There is a shoe webshop here in Finland, which f.ex sent me a discount code via facebook.
As you already have a decently sized page, there is no need to go over the basics like spamming it with low quality updates etc. Just keep it simple, dont push people to suddenly monetize the whole thing, but lead them and provoke actions. It's the same in shopping in a mall, you dont want the salesmen crawling over you and pushing you to buy something, they should be there to assist you in case you need help and sometimes suggest something as long as they realize being pushy wont take them too far.
