Now, that Im working on this friend's small local business site, I realize that link building for sites like this (yes I know its not all; and Ive done other stuff first, actually!) isn't exactly fun :-)...I have to really go out of my way to create useful content and then that content will be useful, but not even for my target audience,etc..
I'm not overly surprised..but I'm wondering this:
Isn't link building (which isnt everything, yes) and possibly word-of-mouth marketing (in case this becomes big) much more fun in some niches than in others?
I'm thinking link building/WOM content creation in the online language learning field (or other e-learning websites) would probably be a lot less tiresome than in your typical e-commerce niche. and that I could come up with plenty of ideas for this niche (for example) with truly useful content to create, that I'd actually love to share with my visitors if I was another webmaster in that niche.
Why do SEOs not simply avoid "boring" e-commerce niches and specialize in industries that are more fun than others? (I'd assume the e-learning niche doesnt necessarily pay less?)
Or do many do this?
