Firstly, Jill, you're Avoiding SEO Brain Freeze series was invaluable to me, thank you.

Although I have not been an active member on your forum, I have continuously returned as a Guest to crawl through your forum (much like a bot just not as quick), and I decided to finally join. smile.gif

My question is in regard to internationalisation strategies.

I have worked on clients sites where they had ccTLD's, differentiating targeted keywords and unique content for each country. This was a breeze.

I have now taken on a new client who does not have funds to splurge on ccTLD's for the 30+ countries he ships his product to. He would like to rank in all those countries for his product related keywords.

My suggestion was to;
  • Create sub-directories, named by country
  • Geo-target each sub-directory in GWT
  • Unique content for each sub-directory **
  • Content written with correct grammar - ie: internationalisation for Australia and internationalization for USA

** Will it be a big issue if all sub-cats have the same or very similar content? ie: like hp.com. What would be the best way to change the content 30+ times or is it a necessity?

The next question would be about hosting.. The site can only be hosted in one place.. is there an SEO friendly way to tell SE's one directory should be displayed and geo-targeted completely for that country? (apart from just doing it in GWT)

Is there anything else I should know before I proceed to restructure the site?

Thank you in advance!
