It seems Linkedin is pretty cool, but then I looked at rates to email people and was stunned. What do others think? thanks!

I've never used any of the paid features there.

I have used the free version for over five years - long before a paid version was added. One client found me through LinkedIn. I use LinkedIn mostly for referring potential new clients to the customer testimonials left me for on LinkedIn.

thanks, maybe I don't understand what the big payments apply for?
You do get to email to your hearts content those you are already connected to? or not?

In Germany we have an extremely similar site (Did you guys know that Facebook has a German equivalent, too?(copy cats);-)).
The German site I use has been pretty helpful (happened to meet my first potential employer on there for example in a forum discussion (ended up not taking the job, though, because I still was/am a college student with too little time on my hands).
I do know that it has a paid version, and I can see myself signing up for it later on (after college). (or maybe not in case I'm busy enough anyway and don't see the point).
However with linkedin...who would sign up for it, if oyu can send PMs to people (after adding them/them adding you), anyway..spammers?:-)? (dont ask me why(I dont remember), but on the german version of this site (xing) Ive beeni n the situation where I thought "too bad I cant send them a PM, right now - might consider signing up!")

It's a haven for spamming recruitment consultants isn't it?
