We purchased a real estate firm last year and moved a number of domains within the past 12 months, added new content, etc. Now, our CEO is selling one of the businesses and we have an opportunity to keep a domain relocationresults dot com which has been in the archives since 1998 with real estate content and possibly 301 redirect that into virtually identical content into our new website we launched in January 2010 stlouisrealestatetoday dot com Right now its located (but now linked to anything as stlouisrealestatetoday dot com /relocation/
Our two options are to keep some sort of content on the website as separately and build up a second site with relocationresults and our second option would be to 301 redirect - especially if we gain something from the aging of the existing domain given our relatively new domain for the other site.
Any thoughts or considerations? I have to present to the CEO before May 1 a plan when the business sale closes for the relocation business. Thanks in advance for your expertise, advise and help.

It's always best to 301 redirect unless there's a need to two completely distinct sites that offer completely different products/services.

Thanks Jill... Guess to clarify my question - will the domain 'reset' as its 301 redirected (assuming we don't have any change in the basic site, whois record, etc. when its 301 redirected into the main website - the one with the newer domain. Or will the new domain inherit any benefits from the older domain that is 301 redirected into it.

The old domain will pass it's link popularity, etc., to the new one in time, which is why I recommended it.
