Having gone through many of the posts here, I see somewhere between 10-30 as reasonably recommended and several of those are paid submissions.

When I looked through HR and other sources for directories I checkmarked several paid directories that folks within this forum discussed.

Thank you!
I think this depends almost entirely on your position. If you're doing this for pay (you know SEO is a real job for many people) then pay heed to what qwerty said. However, if it's your business and you have time on your hands, then it's up to you. I estimate 5-15 minutes per submission alone, not including research.
I made up a list of directories, both free and paid, that I grabbed from a variety of sources including this forum. I would not call it qualified but is certainly a start and if anyone has positive/negative feedback on any of the entries I will make adjustments. Open Link Building Strategies and scroll well down to the section on Directories.
Yesterday one of my clients indicated that 'Total', I think, is trying to sell her a package for about $4000.

I am new to SEO and have been hired by a company full-time to handle all of their marketing needs. Unfortunately, they do not have a very large marketing budget so I am trying to stick with the free directories as much as I can.
