I've been searching for my competition with the keyword in the title
& it showing 100 results at a time.
When I did a search for the keyword showing 100 results at a time
it showed 83 competing sites.
When I searched for the keyword with it only showing 10 results
at a time it showed 32,000 competing pages.
Which one is my real competition & why does Google do this.

The better question to ask yourself is how stiff the competition is among the top 10 or 20 sites.
After all, obtaining a ranking at position 81 is going to get you just about as much traffic as being ranked at position 31,551.
Look more closely at the Top 10 sites, maybe Top 20 in more competitive fields, and figure out how well they are optimized. That'll tell you a lot more about how much work it's going to take to get your site up with the big boys.

You cannot judge your competition by one keyword. You have to look and see who shows up in the top 10 most often for all the keywords you're trying to draw traffic from.
