We have a mens fashion e-commerce site which ranks very high for most relevant search terms here in Australia.
We want to make a big attempt at getting a high ranking Internationally (specifically the US) and my understanding is that most search engines rank sites higher within their own countries (?). I.e. We rank very well here in Australia but not on other search engines throughout the world.
My query is; other than trying to increase your general page rank, is there any way of 'tricking' Google, Yahoo, etc in the US into thinking our site is based in the US. I'm pretty sure it's not as simple as using a .com domain instead of com.au correct? Would I need to set up a site physically in the US from an IP based in the US?
Hope that makes sense but any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
