Hi All,

Just wanted some opinions:

Does google still really care about a Dmoz listing?

It's not un-common to meet webmasters who have been waiting for over 2 years to get listed...

While most high ranking sites for my KW's have the listing, I wonder if they got the listing years ago and have been working on SEO ever since, which is why the rank highly - not because of the Dmoz listing.

I've heard that G is in the process of replacing Dmoz with their Local directory.

Any opinions?

DMOZ is a waste of time, you're better off trying to get editor status yourself and approve your own sites then to wait for them to approve.
Added to that the link you'll get won't make a real impact in your rankings.

It's just another link.

They care about it just like they care about any other link.

I'd say DMOZ is at least as valuable as just about any other general directory -- not a whole lot, but worth submitting to.

I actually had a site dropped from DMOZ not long ago. It had been listed since around 2003, and the company hosting it went out of business without any warning, so the site was down for a few days -- maybe a week. That was long enough for them to catch that it was down and delete the listing sad.gif
