Hi, I'm new to SEO, but already have been able to assist a couple of customers with it. Both have asked me if I had a website, and I said, "No, but you can look [here and there] to see some of my previous work for others." It didn't bother them. So now I want one. It seems that content management systems (blogs) are taking off big. So, why should anyone want a site of static pages? I think that since Google bought blogger, there's gonna be less chance of SEs overlooking dynamic pages. Please help me see through the haze! Should I invest my time building a static site, or go with a web log?

Don't make the choice of static or dynamic with "Search Engines" as your primary factor in deciding. What's better for you in regards to keeping it updated (if you plan on keeping it updated)? What type of site is going to be more useful to your users - and which method (dynamic or static) is going to best suit the creation of such a site?
Either way, you can do SEO on the site and have it in mind as you build it, but don't let it affect your decision on which way to go. In that regard, it makes no difference, at all.
