Hello Gang,
I've got a client that's looking to create a Spanish version of their site to be targeted to Costa Rica. We're in the process of buying a .CR domain and finding a CR hosting company. Unfortunately, there do not seem to be any RELIABLE cheap hosting companies in CR.
Could we continue with the purchase of the .CR domain and have it hosted in the US and just set the targeting in Webmaster Tools to CR? At this point it doesn't seem to make sense to pay through the nose to get a slow CR hosting company.
Best,
BRLM

My understanding is whilst where you host your site is important it is one of many factors - so depending on what your market is it may not be an issue.

Yes. I believe I recently saw some tests or heard Matt Cutts say that what you propose should work just fine. The .tld is key, I believe.
