Hi,
I am new to SEO.
I have created a website which is primarily affiliate links and information.
I have submitted my URL to google, yahoo and msn.
I have uploaded my sitemap.xml to the webmaster tools available yet I am still unable to find my site on any search engine.
I did all this about 2 weeks ago.
Why am I not on any search engines ?

Any help will be appreciated.

thank you.

I have read all the newbie articles and my website abides by the rules and methods described.
eg, my Titles, H1 and alt tags all have relevant keywords but are not saturated with keywords.
The only thing I believe I maybe missing is worthy backlinks but surely as a new site these will be non existent until my site is on the serp and available to people to link to.

How many affiliate links are you talking?

Truth is google doesn't like sites with excessive affiliate links...may be why you are not showing up.

Impossible to say for sure, but prolly because it's new and it's just affiliate stuff.

Create something more original, and give it lots of time, plus build lots of links to it, then come back with any specific questions about SEO you may have that are not answered already here on the forum or in the Tips for Newbies.

Well there ya go then.

Wait, I'm talking about links from other sites that point to yours. Is that what you're talking about?

hi Jill,
as its a very new site I do not beleive there are any sites linking to mine !
I have added articles on wiki and squidoo and have tried submitting my site to various add url sites but still no luck.

(the 2 affiliates are links on my site).
so on my landing page I have a description of the site and 1 affiliate in the top right corner and another affiliate at the bottom of the page.

surely this will not affect my ranking on search engines.
does the process of being viewable via search engines sometimes take a long time ? ie 1 month?

If your page consists purely of 2 outbound affiliate links, in terms of search engine visibility is concerned, that is useless!

When you say 'description of my site' I am assuming this is not just solely an audacious sales pitch?

For example.. if your site is linking to a Fishing Reel manufacturer...do you have any original content that visitors will find usefull? i.e not just a sales pitch.

You need to do some link Building... but don't just chuck in links purely for the Search Engines..use links that are actually going to add value to your site in terms of visitor appeal.

I am not 100% sure on this but, putting your affiliate links at the top of the page may not be the best thing to do...as your affiliate links would be the first thing the google algorythm will see...dont make your site a blatantly obvious affiliate site.

As far as length of time to be visible... my latest site showed up within 10 days!.... "How long is a piece of string" question really.

thanks for the useful information.
I have original content that just isn't a sales pitch. but it sounds like I definately need to build links.
Should I add links to other sites other than affiliate links on my site ? will that help?
or should I just be trying to get my site added to other sites ?

Links help no doubt..but it is not the Holy Grail.

There is big debate about which links are best...Inbound? or Outbound? or Reciprocal?

I would probably say Inbound....but,

Nobody really knows for sure how much 'weight' google gives an Inbound Link.

My personal Rule of Thumb is be it Inbound or Reciprocal.... The links must be..Relevant, Relevant and Relevant!

You need other people's sites to link to yours, not you linking to others.

Thank you Jill.
I will try to do this.
however this is proving quite difficult as I am not on the search engines so no one can find me !
sounds like a catch 22.

You're not supposed to wait for them to find you. You'll need to seek them out and let them know about what you have at your site that their site visitors would benefit from.

Hey you need to some off page work directory submission, link exchange and social bookmarking to get ranked in search engine. Its not a game of 1 or 2 weeks. You should wait at least.

LoL did you expect to be on the first page in 2 weeks?
It takes a long time to rank high on google... It took 1 month for one of my sites to just get indexed!
