Hi all!

Any Dreamweaver gurus out there??

Just uploaded my site files from dreamweaver to server all files went over ok except my background image. My FTP log is showing an error on a jpeg Background image.. tried again and it has come back with the same error.

Its strange because the background image is there on another page...just not showing on all of them???

Does anyone know how to fix FTP errors on files?

Thanks
Kaz007

Depends on what the error is.

Go to the local folder with the image, and upload it separately.

Sometimes this works.

This is the error:

..\..\Pictures\home page image 3.jpg - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put home page image 3.jpg. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem. Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.

Yes, I have tried to upload the local folder independantly of the rest..not working??

As the site I am currently working on is not massive, it shouldnt be in excess of my server capabilities surely?? It is not a dynamic website with huge databases or anything.

I have highlighted in bold the part that is bizarre wacko.gif

(PS. As you can see from the file name I have not bothered to SEO this as it is only a background image not relevent to the content of site!) mf_tongue.gif

Many thanks guys.

Have you tried using a different FTP client? Have you tried uploading a different file to the folder? What are the permission settings for the Pictures folder?

And does the Pictures folder actually exist above the level of the other files in the directory tree? As a general rule that's what ../ means, to move up a directory level. So by the error it looks like your FTP is trying to move up two directory levels.

On a server environment you're not going to have permission to create files two levels up from the root level of your web site. That's a server security issue.

How you doing randy?

Randy, this is just pure speculation...do you think it would work if I changed the path?

As in replaced ../../ with public_html/ do you think that would work? or do you think it is a "100% pants around ankles" server issue?

Why do servers over complicate things?

People say computers are clever? they are not clever at all..if you think about it a computer will only ever do what you tell it to do! censored.gif

Many thanks
Kaz

Is that the actual filename? If so it could be that your server doesn't accept spaces in the filename

I these days by pass the upload via dreamwever because it can be a bit temperamental - try download filezilla as an ftp client and do what you need through that.

Hi to all!

Just to update on the FTP Error I had...

The problem was a single missing colon at the end in my CSS Style Sheet!! ( ; )

Trawled through the whole entire code of my site and this simple oversight caused mayhem!!

I use FileZilla for FTP and have no problems, however, hunt for version 2, the new version 3 sucks as it keeps trying to force re-FTP of changed files and you can't turn it off.
