Hi, just a quick question,
do you think it would be better to pick a domain using a slash such as
Polar-Bear.com or
use a number, such as
PolarBear1.com
thanks!

You obviously meant dash, not slash.
If you're not going to say the name of the site and just promote it online, I'd go with Polar-Bear.com. (you'd have to say polar dash bear dot com)
If you're going with PolarBear1.com I'd name the site Polar bear 1 instead of Polar bear. But something like myPolarBear.com might be better and name the site My Polar Bear so not to get confused with someone else's Polar Bear site ...

Better for what?
Usability wise, the both are poor. I don't see too many people remembering the dash or the 1.
I would look for a domain that was more brandable, rather than so generic.

They are hyphens! (but I guess dash will do).
I just did a search and www.funkypolarbear.com is available.

Years ago I would have said the dashed one would be better for SEO purposes, but I'd say they're both the same these days.

I think that the domain PolarBear is already occupied.
Other possibilities:
ArcticCircleBear
NorthernBear

I think the polar bear example, was just that...an example.
