Hi everyone!

Have yet to see (or entirely likely I missed it!) anyone address what happens to sites now in Yahoo!'s new search engine after April 15.

Will Slurp continue to index sites after 4/15? Or, should we tell our clients to prepare for paid inclusion in Yahoo? By the way, most are already in Inktomi's database.

Or ... am I understanding this right as an either/or situation?

OOOOOPS. I apologize bunches. This should be in the topic forum relevant to Paid Inclusions/Listings, etc. I just didn't scroll down far enough until after posting this.

No problem. I've moved it.

I don't know the answer to your question, though. I'm pretty sure there's going to be a separate PFI program for Yahoo, but I'm not sure if current subscribers are going to be in Yahoo only, or the other locations and NOT Yahoo.

It's a tricky situation, isn't it? If clients wait and do nothing about Yahoo PFI, then lose their good rankings after 4/15, then I PFI them into Yahoo, there's that gap in time there where they won't be found by searchers (probably?).

Most of them have a big education-based audience and that is the time when eductional institutions are reviewing their fiscal year-end budgets, deciding what purchases to make. Kind of a predicament as to what to advise clients to do.

It would appear from reading other posts that clients who have refused to get a paid Yahoo directory listing up to now, SHOULD, for the sake of future ranking. At least, I can advise them (again) to do that.

Thanks for your input, Bob.

Best,
Sharon

According to some news i have seen yahoo search will offer both free and PFI. earliest date they will come up with free inclusion is first week of march.

Yahoo slurp will follow web to include all the pages it will find through links and it will update database every 2 to 4 weeks. If yahoo finds your site and you are not on their spam list and your site has a unique content it will show up in yahoo search. PFI will not influence any rankings or nor will it help you if your site is on their spam list.

If your site is banned on yahoo search and you opted for PFI and your site pass through their editorial guidelines for PFI than your pages will show up in the search at the bottom of the search pages meaning you will be first from bottom for being on their spam list  .

If your site is on their spam list IMO they will have some kind of review process to take your site off from spam list if you follow certain guidelines.

All existing orders submitted to either FAST,
AltaVista or Inktomi will be honoured for the full term of the subscription.
These orders will continue to receive distribution as ordered.

As an additional bonus, Inktomi users are currently receiving traffic from Yahoo Search. This bonus ends on the 15th of April 15th. After this time, Inktomi Search Submit customers will need to change over to Overture Site
Match if they wish to continue receiving search traffic from Yahoo!

Just clicked on the link and read the press release. Egads, the small business owner is in a really tough spot. It's confusing to me. first, they say all existing orders ... will be honoured for the full term of the subscription, etc. In what way is one honoured when you still have to re-submit your URLs next month AND do pay-per-click as well to stay in Yahoo?

Question: What search engine(s) will be covered by an existing Inktomi subscription? In other words, where will you be found if you don't subscribe to the Overture Site Match program next month?

And, hi back, Jill. Have enjoyed so much reading your newsletter, but just never piped up at the forum until now!

in shock,
Sharon

Sharon, those issues are being discussed in this thread. I haven't been through the whole thing yet, but your question may be answered in there.
