Msn Indexing Question
Posted 26 February 2004 - 05:27 PM
I have a question about MSN's indexing. I paid for inclusion last year for my home page to ensure that at least that page got included.
I recently checked to see which pages are currently indexed since I knew the Yahoo/Inktomi switch was about to go down. When I search on my URL from the Search box on the homepage of MSN, two of my pages come up: the one I paid for plus an internal page. So, I was considering doing more pages of paid inclusion.
But before I shelled out more money I did an advanced search on my URL at MSN and discovered that ALL of my pages came up as indexed. So, which is right? The basic search of 2 pages or the advanced search of all pages? How do I know if I need to pay for inclusion at MSN?
Considering how little of my traffic comes from MSN, it seems logical that MSN is only directing referrals to my two pages, not all pages.
Anyone have any insight on this? MSN is still a bit of a mystery to me.....Thanks!

Obviously, the second search has to be right, or you wouldn't have found your pages, right? Either they have them or they don't. And apparently they did!

I figured as much, but find it confusing that different results are reported for the same URL search. Another cyberspace mystery....

You will notice the same type of thing on most of the search engines these days. The majority of them have the default set to only show a maximum of 2 listings for any domain. Doing an advanced search helps you to override this default.

As I'm currently trying to see why Google loves my pages, but Yahoo/MSN aren't.
