In the context of all the costs involved in building and running a web site, everywhere is cheap. I'd pay closer attention to the usability of the site. Personally, I've grown a liking to Godaddy.com because it is on the cheaper side and easy to use. I'm sure others would have differing opinions on this.

If you're just talking about registering a domain name, I'm with Ed. GoDaddy is cheap and easy to use. Luckily, you didn't ask about hosting

DirectNic is only $15 per year and allows you to manage many domains through one account.

Hey all

Sorry to try and split this topic off, but does anyone have any UK recommendations as to both domain names and hosting?

Cheers

James

James THE best domain registrar is 123reg.co.uk, you get 100% control over your domain including forwarding holding page nameservers DNS ownership changes etc all from a control panel. A .uk domain cost £6.09 including VAT.

Hosting is a different matter, a company that I recommend is BPweb, they have packages running from a few pounds, but are aimed at re-seller hosting really.

1and1.co.uk have a great offer at the moment, they have a good package @ £4.99 a month and you get £50 of adwords thrown in.

They are inexpensive for domain registrations, but I now avoid all of their services.

A few months ago I was going to use them for a merchant account and to host some sites through their Website Complete software. They had undisclosed back end fees for their merchant account and additional, undisclosed hosting fees with the software (Anyone interested in the details, please send me an email or private message and I will elaborate).

I register all of my domains through http://www.Easycgi.com. $10 a year plus an easy control panel for changing nameservers, contact information, etc.

I use Bulkregister.com for my .com/.net/etc domains and (if anyone cares) canreg.com for my .ca domains. Bulkregister has some nice tools and I like the service.

If you want control over DNS servers, I like ZoneEdit -you get 5 free domains and it's cheap for others - you can do all sorts of interesting stuff when you have control of nameservers separate from the webhost (for one thing it's hard to be held hostage)

Once again, hosting is a very different subject :D

I get my UK domains from easily.co.uk and my .com ones from Namecheap.com .

UK hosting - well, I've always liked WebFusion.co.uk but people just sneer when I mention them, so I guess they don't have the greatest reputation. I've never had any problems with them, their service or any uptime and techie type problems and I have a couple of sites that have been with them for four years. Also, I like www.unitedhosting.co.uk - though their servers are in the USA.

I use GoDaddy for domain registrations only- even though you have to be careful to avoid all the extra things that you have to decline in order to finally process your order.

I use EV1Servers.net, you can get a domain for $6.49 plus tax which adds up to $7 and some change. They probably don’t make any money of this which doesn’t matter since there business is selling dedicated servers which they do a swell job at. They resell for Tucows incase you wanted to know.

I prefer BulkRegister too. Not the cheapest out there anymore, but I like having all of my domains in one control panel. Sure does make it simple when it's time to renew 20 domains at a time. One click and go.

I use www.mydiscountdomains.com for $8.88 per year. I've been extremely happy so far.

Good luck.
