How often does Google update anyway. I added several new pages about 2 weeks ago that have helped my rankings quite a bit, but the new pages still aren't listed.

As for forum sigs, they usually aren't indexed. They aren't on this forum anyway. Just find one of these forum pages in a Google search, then looked at what they have in their cache. You will not see the signatures in people's posts.

Getting a link from a page that's already indexed is likely to help, and may well be enough, but being listed in a major directory is, as far as I know, the closest you can get to a guaranteed place in Google.

What are the best non-paying directories other than dmoz.org?

Which is how it should be or else there would be duplicate links which would mess up the real link pop numbers for any site that has a lot of forum posts.

The advantages are pretty small, however - there are some anchor text benefits but there's extremely little PR benefit. My observation is that Google effectively devalued forums a a source of links at Florida, and since then there seems to be an extensive devaluation of links from within the same IP block.

What would happen if a sites HomePage had backlinks (and say it had a PR4) - but none of the other pages did. Would Google still index the other pages?
My site had about 10 pages indexed even though only the Home Page had links, although now only the homepage is indexed.

I have plenty of good incoming links to my site (waiting for a PR update though), so I don't need my signature link to be spidered

Interesting. So that's google's cache file.
No, Google will not. It doesn't see the signatures, it surfs this forum with signatures off.
See this for example.
So anyone who's here just to get backlinks from their signature can go now!
Does it not do that because the forum has coded it not to spider those or because Google just doesn't do that?
