Remote Web Designer (Freelance, Contract, or Permanent)

Our client’s new division and will consist of a small group of remote web developers and designers that will collaborate virtually to conceptualize, prototype and produce disruptive web services and applications for multiple markets, with a primary focus on providing valuable services to entrepreneurs. Our client needs someone interested in designing innovative web applications and the brand identities that present them to the world.

Our client is looking to hire a Web Designer who will work remotely—full time, part time or even freelance—and perhaps you're the right candidate. We need someone who is passionate about design and the design process. Qualified candidates will be more creative than technical and have a strong portfolio of websites to present.

Web Design Responsibilities

• Sketch website concepts and features in the form of wireframes.
• Design web site interfaces, web application interfaces and a variety of web-based promotions such as ads and landing pages.
• Work productively under deadlines producing multiple, distinct concepts for a design problem.
• Effectively present designs and extract feedback from non-designers.
• Act as a vocal advocate for the end user’s needs throughout the design process.
• Effectively interact with development and technology teams in explaining how your design concept should be translated from an image into a functional website.
• Write CSS and HTML as needed to tweak the look and feel of website layouts.

Branding and Identity Design Responsibilities

• Interview stakeholders to learn parameters of brand and identity development.
• Sketch a variety of brand identities, color palettes and other elements for the new brand.
• Effectively present designs and extract feedback from non-designers.
• Produce production-ready art files for logos and supporting brand elements.
• Produce brief identity guidelines on logo and brand element usage.
• Act as vocal advocate for ensuring the brand is implemented correctly.

Qualifications:

• Experience producing high quality website designs and brand identities.
• Design studio experience preferred and considered a plus.
• A portfolio with at least five strong examples of website designs (no developer turned designers) and brand identities (unselected logos and designs are fine).
• Experience designing both HTML and Flash-based designs.
• Sketchbooks that show design explorations considered a plus.
• Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, especially generated pixel-perfect website designs in Adobe Photoshop.
• Strong understanding of usability principles, user interface and information architecture—demonstrated through a great portfolio.
• Ability to sketch multiple ideas quickly and communicate design rationale.
• Ability to articulate thinking behind a design concept or user experience.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
• Experience with, but not a focus on, HTML, CSS and JavaScript a plus.
• Experience with Rails applications a plus
• Ability to design for cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility.
• Commitment to high standards of quality.
• Design awards a plus.
