Hi, I have a question about directory lists. I was reading that I could use these types of sites to get backlinks. The article was somewhat old. Nowadays, can I still get a backlink that helps my site or will it hurt my site?
Thanks!

It certainly won't hurt. If you find directories that are relevant to your business a link might have some value. However there are plenty of directories that will not overly affect your rankings and can prove to be a waste of time.
