Google Testing New Description Lengths?

I was doing some research just now and noticed that the SERPs were showing some descriptions at around 250 characters instead of the typical 150 or so. Some of the descrips were still at 2 lines, but others - like the first listing and a couple more on the page - are much longer.

I can't duplicate this except with long-tail phrases, it seems.

Anybody else seen this?

I recall reading about this change a few months back, but don't have a specific post to point to. I think we may have discussed it here around that time, though.
