I've tried to set the preferred domain name in GWMT.

It now says ...

Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://www.mydomain.co.uk/. Please verify http://www.mydomain.co.uk/.

What is G! talking about, I verified the non-www root domain, doesn't that imply I own all sub-domains pertaining to the root domain?

Why is GWMT acting like this , it never used too?

I'm not going to create a www subdomain account just to verify ownership so I can set prefered domain to non-www when I already have a 301 redirect in place and have verified the root domain already.

Does anyone else find this a bit odd?
