Before I embark on submitting my site to directories, are there any dangers I should be aware of? For instance I know that reciprocal links with "bad" sites can be particularly damaging to your site by association. Bit like hanging around with the wrong crowd I suppose. Any help please?

If the directory requires a recipricol and you are unsure of its worthyness to have a link, then ask yourself one simple question...
Why the hell are you submitting your site to them in the first place?
Directory submission is worth while as long as you submit to decent directories, remember your trying to gain additional visitor streams not PR juice

Does it really make sense on your site for you to be linking to directories?
I don't typically find when I get to a site that I want to see a list of directories. Unless, of course, the site is a directory of directories.
