Hi all,

Recenttly i come across a software which claims to be effective in building inbound links. It works on the line of from where your competitor is getting links and so on. What may be the better way for managing this huge task?

I use Axandra's program ARELIS to manage link-building campaigns for my clients. It's still a lot of work, but the software does a lot to help you manage the huge amount of data that's involved in sending out and tracking hundreds of requests.

I think Arelis is a great program to use...if used well. I few features I would recommend not using are:

- email templates.
Too easy to send unpersonalized messages

- Find link partners automatically
I find it provides crappy results. If you must use this feature I would for sure recommend not to run queries on Google!

But for the rest, I think it is great to keep track of your links etc. Even generating the link pages I like but would recommend removing the link to Axandra on the bottom. I am not sure how true this is but apperantly some websites have been penalized by linking to Axandra...

To me, finding and managing links are two different tasks.

For finding - I use Marketleap's link pop tool to check competitors sites since it uses all the *major* crawlers in it's reporting. I find what I need from this.

But to manage my link campaign, I use an Excel spreadsheet I've modified over time and Xenu's link checker ( which is free!).

I've never used any of the advertised link tools such as the one mentioned, but understand they both offer free trial versions ( or used to).

Hi

I personally would advise against going for masses of unqualified links and instead concentrate on good quality ones.

Many people fall into the trap of going for sheer volume of links, some using automated software and other 'suspect' techniques. I think it safer and more beneficial to do good solid research and build a quality link programme based on relevant subjects and sites.

Although this may be the 'hard' way to do this surely the benefits outweigh the problems you may find with unqualified links which may actually be worth nothing at all. In particular you may notice that we have no links from our site to others and this is due mainly to my reluctance to link to some sites which I dont feel offer a professional overall image, for example some site look great and offer good content but then do something silly like including a banner exchange on their homepage! Not exactly the sort of site I would wish to link to

Bottom line is be careful who you link to and keep relevant to your subject matter

cheers!

I think it depends on the banner........!!

Have you ever see the Search Engine Strategies site? They have a floating navigation bar that is just maddening IMO........ and yet, if they offered me the opportunity to host a link, I'd jump at the chance.......

So, I don't think it's always so black and white. While having quality links is always favorable, having a large number of links doesn't hurt you either.

yeah thats a good point, but for myself I'd rather wait for the right ones before making a move.

I guess its like everything in life - personal choice and judgement. I would just be worried some people may get carried away and link to anything, good bad and ugly.

nearly friday!

If I understand correctly all this tool does is tell you how many links your competitors have on each of various search engines. It doesn't tell you who the links are from does it?

To manage the link campaign I've recently subscribed to LinksManager. I think it does an excellent job of link checking and management as well as providing all the scripts and forms that allow webmasters to place & edit links on your site.

I hate that thing! They need a good usablity report and redesign.

But Debra makes a great point- I'd take a link from there any day!
