thinking of purchasing a domain name thats one word only but all my competitors have already bought up good ones - .com .net etc etc

if the word is say 'dragonfly' could i get away with 'dragon-fly' and not damage seo considerations?

I have a hyphen website that does well (in the domain) - my opionion is that it doesnt matter at all - i mean, why should it? Maybe certain keywords might get flagged if they are submitted like medication or viagra etc....

Other people might think otherwise but I am happy with my domain - I chose it for the customer not google superman.gif

Since the domain has little to do with how you'll rank, you could buy a domain called "mosquitos" and it would rank the same as the "dragon-fly" domain.
