Hello
If I want to forward keywordsite.com to keywordssite.com (extra s), can I just forward it using godaddy option? Or should I make an account for it on my server, and do a 301 redirect?

*Most* registrar's control panel redirection option only do a 302.

if you are sure the CP has a 301 option and it works, use that, no need to put redirection visitor load on your server when there is another option.

However, if you can only get a 302 out of the godaddy CP, you will need to use another method for a 301.

What web server platfrom you running?

Okay, I'm with Godaddy and I just checked and they give youthe option of 301 or 302. So 301 and good to go?

Double check it after the fact to make sure it's a real 301 though. In the past GoDaddy has said it's a 301 when it was really a 302.

Better safe than sorry.

Well, if you want an installed program to check status codes and such WebBug is the little freebie I've been using for years. Make sure you check HTTP Ver 1.1 if you use that one. It defaults to Ver 1.0, which was incredibly buggy where status codes were concerned.

Or if you need to simply spot check it occasionally so don't want to install something, I've got a freebie scripted header checker over on my personal site.

With either of those simply enter the url that should be redirecting to see what status code is being sent back to the browser.

Yeah, they often lie and say their 302's are 301's. And then blame it on SEOs.
