I have used adwords in the past for some of our sites but usually stick with the lower cost keywords that are more targeted to our products. However, the site we want to promote is pretty common and needs to be in some common heavily used keywords.

The problem so far is the cost. Just using a handful of keywords is showing 250-350 clicks a day but would cost over $200 per day. Anyone else battle with this? The conversion rate to make that up would have to be 50% or higher for us to justify the cost.

What would be best here?

With PPC you need each click to make you more than it's costing. Otherwise why do it?

So if you're spending $200 a day, that's fine as long as it's making you anything more than $200. Make sense?

Have you tried Google's Search-based Keyword Tool? (google.com/sktool/) It evaluates your site and suggests Adwords, a price, tells you what your organic ranking would be, tells you which landing page you'd want to use and gives you an idea of how much competition there is for that word. It's worth a shot if you haven't looked at it. There might be some bargains out there for you.
