In this article, which is very good btw, it reminds me of the reason for the class action suit that was brought against goto or whatever service it was that offered lifetime listings then renigged when they became looksmart (I think). Anyway, I'm just curious what others think.

As you say, mopacfan, a very good read. However I would be very surprised if someone as astute as the Yahoo team would not have put in small print that makes rights and obligations very clear.

Mopac, GoTo had nothing to do with LookSmart. That was all LookSmart.

Okay just read the article. How do you see a class action suit in the making? All you pay for with an Inktomi inclusion is inclusion to Inktomi. Yahoo was never in the mix. Just Inktomi-based engines.

Nobody's taking away your Inktomi inclusion, therefore there is most certainly 100% no case.

Actually it seems pretty smart for Yahoo to make paid inclusion separate from Inktomi. That gives them the possibility for two separate revenue streams and get a return on the investment quicker.

GoTo became Google? I though it was Overture... but if you type in www.goto.com you get Google!

The way I understand the new program, from the email I got from Trellian, is that Inktomi/AV/FAST will continue to feed the engines they currently do, Inktomi will also feed Yahoo until the middle of April, and the new product will get you into all of these (Ink/AV/FAST & Yahoo!) from April onwards.

Anyone else got anything more than this that they know?

I think you are correct greystar.

As I understand it:
Altavista and Alltheweb's indexes will be no more and will be replaced with the new Yahoo! index. As for the old Ink index it may be used by MSN and a couple of others or Yahoo! may offer them the new Yahoo! index.

I do not see them doing away with a revenue stream.... you pay for one to get MSN and then anbother to get Yahoo... why combine unless they can get a higher cost for the combined then they think they will for the 2 seprately.

LOL, with a CPC element to the clicks, they'll be laughing all the way to the bank. I'd much rather pay a few flat fees, that a flat fee and then again for each click!
