Wordpress is what I've used for clients. Its easy to set up so that even clients with little technical knowledge have been able to do it.

Agree, Wordpress is a respectable piece of programming, updated often, easily modified through themes and widgets, and is fast to get something going.

OK thanks for advice - one thing though, does having a blog that links to my site help me with SEO?

Only if the blog itself is attracting links so it has some value to pass along in the first place.
A well-written, well-promoted, frequently-updated blog can be good for attracting traffic to itself, and potentially driving some of that traffic to the main website. It may also attract some links, which should help with SEO. But maintaining a corporate blog is really more of a general marketing technique than a specific SEO technique.
